AP® Art & Design is an opportunity for creatively driven visual art students to further develop their skills and submit a final portfolio to the AP® College Board for possible college credit. The course requires determination, exploration, planning, and grit. Students use the design process to generate ideas, research, experiment, create, and revise their artworks. These acquired and developed skills provide them with a solid foundation for their future, regardless of their career path.
During our first semester, students explored media, discovered new techniques, analyzed artworks, and refined artistic and writing skills. They were often forced out of their comfort zones throughout this process, which maximized their opportunities to grow. By November, they were narrowing down their ideas for their sustained investigations and beginning their first artworks for this series.
What is the sustained investigation? Students are challenged to create a series of artworks which explore a central "big idea" using a variety of methods, media, and process development along the way. They formulate questions which drive their investigation. Focus is placed on their design process and how they arrive at each of the final artworks which convey their big idea. Additionally, they must provide written evidence to support their investigation and artistic choices.
These students have worked remarkably hard this year!!
Our world changed week and a half before our AP Art and Design Student Art Exhibition. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were unable to showcase our artworks in a gallery setting, but we are thrilled to share this work with you virtually. Thank you for taking the time to enjoy their creative talents!
