Sustained Investigation Series
For my sustained investigation I decided to focus on freedom and movement in water. I wanted to explore different textures and colors in water and how freedom and movement can be identified through that. One of my biggest challenges with my sustained was composition but I had a realization when I started doing it from more of an aerial view. I felt like I could be more creative with textures and use my fingers a lot to get my desired textures. I think this helped me to grow as an artist because now I know that sometimes you have to step outside of the box to get the final product.

"Cracked Sea" | 10" x 20" | Acrylic and gel on canvas | I wanted to show pieces of water breaking off into the ocean.
"Peaceful Escape" | 16" x 20" | Acrylic on canvas | I wanted to convey movement in the water by doing different values of blue and green.
"Up Above" | 11" x 14" | Acrylic on canvas | I decided to do an aerial view of the ocean. I blended many shades of blue and green to show depth in the water.
"Wavey" | 10" x 20" | Acrylic on canvas | I used expressive marks to show a lot of waves. I use shades of green, light blue, and white. I use lighter values to get highlights within the waves.
"All Blue" | 18" x 24" | Acrylic and gesso on wood | I used different shades of blue to show different depths in the water. I used my fingers to show movement in the water.
"Sea View" | 18" x 36" | Acrylic and gesso on wood | I decided to do an aerial view of the ocean. I used various shades of blue and green to show depth in the water. I used my fingers to get more textures within the water.
"Beach Wave" | 12" x 24" | Acrylic, gesso, modeling paste, and sand on wood | I did an aerial view of waves crashing onto a beach. I used modeling paste to get textures in the water and to make the waves. I also used real sand for the beach. There’s more sand in certain areas which shows movement.
